International office space provider Regus revamps downtown space

Company sets up work units in the Wells Fargo tower

May 7, 2015

Regus, a Luxembourg-based company that specializes in creating and setting up affordably priced office space, is establishing its first location in downtown Spokane.

Regus is revamping the 14th floor of the Wells Fargo Financial Center, at 601 W. First, says Bonnie Fisher, Regus’ San Francisco-based regional vice president for the Pacific Northwest. The entire floor is being remodeled to accommodate 52 office spaces of varying sizes, Fisher says.

“There will be room for approximately 90 people spread out across just a little more than 12,000 square feet,” she says. Office space will be available to rent starting June 22, she says.

Regus currently has 3,000 locations spread throughout 900 cities and 120 countries around the world, its website says. Currently, the company has 22 locations along the Interstate 5 corridor in Western Washington, Fisher says.

“Being the largest city between Minneapolis and Seattle with strong government, education, health care, and military industries, Spokane was clearly a target market for us,” she says.

Regus’ website says Mark Dixon, the company’s CEO and founder who established the company in 1989, was travelling for business himself at the time and recognized the need for business professionals to have more accommodating workplaces while on the road. He particularly noticed European workers trying to complete tasks in loud and crowded cafes, restaurants and hotels, says the website.

Though Dixon may have targeted business travelers in the late ’80s, Fisher says many businesses frequently choose to use Regus office spaces as their primary base of operation.

The idea of companies utilizing decentralized office space has become more popular over time, she says. “There is an ease of use, and it often proves cost effective.” Each Regus location has an on-site, client services manager to address whatever needs business occupants might have, she says.

A single office space will rent for $525 per month. Included in that price is a fully furnished workspace, information-technology support, and a receptionist to field calls, Fisher says. Regus charges $200 per month for its virtual offices, and $59 per month for what it calls its Business World Global Membership, which enables users who don’t need a full-size office to have a professional work environment.
