The Kootenai Tribe of Idaho has broken ground on a new hotel wing at the Best Western Plus Kootenai River Inn Casino & Spa, in Bonners Ferry.

The 20,800-square-foot addition will have 36 rooms, including two deluxe family suites, the tribe says in a press release about the project. The tribe declines to disclose the project cost.

The Kootenai Tribe owns the hotel-casino complex, which is located on the south bank of the Kootenai River just east of U.S. 95. Hagadone Hospitality Co., of Coeur d'Alene, manages the facility.

T.W. Clark Construction LLC, of Spokane, is the contractor on the project. Longwell+Trapp Architects PLLC, of Hayden, is the architect, and Rann Haight Architect, of Coeur d'Alene, also contributed to the project design, the tribe says.

The addition, which is scheduled to be completed in May, will be attached to the southeast side of the two-story hotel.

With the new construction, the Kootenai River Inn will include 101 guest rooms. It also has more than 500 gaming machines in three casinos, the Springs Restaurant & Lounge, and the Kootenai Spa.

The Kootenai River Inn employs about 170 people.
