Command Center reports jump in second-quarter revenues

Command Center reports continued strong growth in demand for temp help

July 19, 2012

Command Center Inc., a Post Falls-based, temporary-staffing company with more than 50 offices in the U.S., has reported second-quarter revenue of $24 million, up 18 percent from $20.3 million in the year-earlier quarter.

The company doesn't expect to release its earnings until next month, but it says that its revenue of $9.4 million over a five-week reporting period ending June 29 was up 19 percent from $7.9 million in the similar period a year ago.

Command Center cited a report by the U.S. Bureau of Labor that the staffing industry led job growth in June by adding more than 25,000 new jobs.

"Despite the sluggish national economy, we continue to grow sales and achieve improved operating results," Glenn Welstad, Command Center chairman and CEO, said in a press release.

He added, "Branch revenue is trending higher, particularly in our North Dakota offices that service the Bakken Region." That region has experienced a high growth in jobs because new drilling technologies have created an oil boom there.

Command Center had 54 company-owned offices as of June, the same number as a year earlier. Welstad said the company plans soon to open three or four more offices, although the company declines to disclose exact locations.

For its first quarter earnings, Command Center announced a net loss of $561,500, or 1 cent per share, compared with a net loss of $2.3 million, or 4 cents per share, in the year-earlier period. First-quarter revenue was at $19 million, up 17 percent from $16.4 million in the year-earlier period.

The company provides temporary staffing to businesses in the U.S., primarily in the areas of light industrial, hospitality, and event services, as well as emergency and disaster relief projects. It also operates a Bakken staffing division in North Dakota.

In January, Command Center acquired the assets of DR Services of Louisiana LLC, which has provided job placements for disaster relief and recovery.

Locally, along with its headquarters at 3773 W. Fifth in Post Falls, the company has offices at 3803 N. Division, in Spokane, and at 1323 E. Sherman, in Coeur d'Alene.
