Design Works relocates to high-traffic retail area

Company adds remodel service, touts proximity to its downtown clients

December 1, 2011
Mike McLean

Design Works Inc., a longtime Spokane-area interior design concern, has moved to a retail area north of downtown.

The company has leased 3,000 square feet of space at 2504 N. Division, across Division Street from the General Store, and has moved there from a similar-sized space at 12111 E. Mission, says Don Manfred, Design Works' owner.

"We thought we needed a better retail location," Manfred says. "Our other location was more of a destination location."

The Division location also brings Design Works closer to many of its clients, Manfred says, adding "We've got more business in the downtown area these days."

Design Works, which was founded in 1985, has added remodeling to its services, he says.

"We're doing some tenant-improvement work," Manfred says. "We've always done a lot of new construction, but that has changed, as we all know."

Design Works' staffing level has remained the same through the move, with four people, including himself and another designer, he says.

Though the floor space is similar, 18-foot-high ceilings in the Division location provides Design Works more vertical space to display cabinets, furniture, and other design features, he says.

"We're still big in stone and tile floor coverings as well as window coverings," Manfred adds.
