Flamin' Joe's to open South Hill outlet

Eatery will be Spokane hot wing restaurant operator's third here

June 2, 2011

Flamin' Joe's Inc., a Spokane-based hot wing restaurant operator, expects to open a new eatery this August in the Lincoln Heights neighborhood, on Spokane's South Hill.

Owner Sally Guthrie says it will be the third Flamin' Joe's restaurant in Spokane, and is to be located in a 4,800-square-foot space most recently occupied by a Chapala Mexican Restaurant, at 2620 E. 29th, in a retail center anchored by a Rosauers Supermarkets Inc. store.

She says the leased space includes a mezzanine seating area in addition to the main floor dining area, and the new restaurant will have bars on both levels. The total seating capacity is about 135 people, she says.

Guthrie says she expects to employ around 30 full- and part-time workers when the restaurant opens. She adds that the current manager of a Flamin' Joe's restaurant located at 11618 E. Sprague in Spokane Valley will transfer to the South Hill restaurant when it opens, and that she'll hire a new manager for the Valley outlet.

Guthrie says she's currently remodeling the interior of the South Hill space to give it the same aesthetic feel as the other two restaurants she owns, which are decorated with firefighter gear and related memorabilia. She declines to disclose the cost of the remodel.

Flamin' Joe's menu includes 26 flavors of chicken wing sauces, as well as burgers, salads, wraps, and appetizers, Guthrie says. The restaurant's sauces range from mild to what's called its Code Red sauce, which also is referred to as The Widow Maker, she says.

The two bars inside the new Flamin' Joe's will serve wine and beer, with around 25 different bottled and draft beers, she says.

In addition to the Valley restaurant and the planned South Hill restaurant, Guthrie also owns a Flamin' Joe's on the North Side, at 7015 N. Division, which opened in early 2009.

She says she has future plans to look into opening an outlet in the Coeur d'Alene area.
