DOT resumes resurfacing work on two-mile stretch of Division

April 7, 2011

The Washington state Department of Transportation was scheduled to start work this week to finish repaving a two-mile stretch of north Division Street.

The DOT last year awarded an about $3.6 million contract to Inland Asphalt Co., of Spokane, for the repaving project, including the construction of a concrete intersection at Wellesley Avenue and Division. That intersection was completed late last year.

The work that is starting now will involve repaving Division between Francis and Euclid avenues, the DOT says. The majority of the work will be done in the evening and overnight hours to reduce impacts to traffic. Some lane restrictions could occur during those hours, but they will be removed during the day, the agency says.

The project is expected to take about 10 weeks to complete, which means work should be wrapped up in June.

The street work will involve grinding off the top layer of asphalt pavement and replacing it with a new layer of asphalt, the DOT says. The new surface will preserve the underlying road structure and will provide a smoother driving experience, it says.

The project is being funded mostly with federal dollars, with a smaller appropriation from the state, the DOT's website says.
