Coeur d'Alene-based Contractors Northwest Inc. has won a more than $3 million contract to make improvements to a portion of the city water system at Emmett, Idaho.

Matt Nason, a project manager for Contractors Northwest, says the contract has received approval from the city, which has a population of about 6,000 people and is located about 30 miles northwest of Boise. Contractors Northwest has a Boise branch office that will handle the work.

Although the U.S. Department of Agriculture has to complete a review of the project, the company expects to get the green light to proceed by mid-April, Nason says.

The project will include the construction of two steel-tank water reservoirs and the installation of water-filtration equipment for part of the city's system that supplies drinking water. The project also will include erecting a roughly 3,000-square-foot building to house the filtration equipment that will be tied into two of the city's wells.

The two reservoirs will be built at the site of one of the wells. Another well is about a mile away, Nason says, and Contractors Northwest will run a pipeline to the off-site well as part of the project. One of the storage reservoirs will hold 1 million gallons, Nason says, while the other tank will be smaller and used for recycling water in the filtration process.

The project is expected to take about eight months to complete.
