New Jersey-based Burlington Stores Inc. plans to open a new store in Spokane Valley this fall, the national off-price retailer announced today.

The specific opening date of the new outlet will be announced later, says Nicole DiTolla, account coordinator with Philadelphia-based marketing company Tierney, which is handling media relations for Burlington.

Burlington's new store will be located in a space formerly occupied by a Toys R Us store, at 15505 E. Broadway. That multitenant building also is occupied by craft store Michaels, Ross Dress for Less, PetSmart, and an Eddie Bauer Outlet store.

DiTolla declines to disclose the size of the space Burlington will occupy. property listing by Spokane commercial real estate brokerage NAI Black shows recently available retail space at that address is about 31,500 square feet.

The new store will implement several social distancing practices, Burlington says in a press release.

Those practices include signage reminding customers to remain six feet apart, one-way entrances and exits, wider check-out lanes, and frequent cleaning of high-touch areas, the company says.

Information on the Burlington's website shows the company currently is hiring for at least seven positions at the planned Valley store, including retail receiving supervisor, sales associate, customer service supervisor, cashier, manager, assistant manager, and loss prevention and security associate.

Burlington, formerly known as Burlington Coat Factory, is a publicly traded company with more than 730 stores in 45 states and Puerto Rico, according to the company website. It has over 36,000 employees.

Burlington currently operates a store at 5830 N. Division, in the Franklin Park Commons shopping center, where it moved from downtown Spokane in the early 2000s.

In 2019, the company had net sales of $7.3 billion.
