16 Cents Corp., a Spokane-based furniture retailer that does business as 16 Cents, 3 Shoes & 5 Socks, has opened its third location at 1233 N. Division, says owner Jason McSteen.

The 22,000-square-foot building there also serves as the company’s headquarters, with a total of 11 employees working there, McSteen says. 

16 Cents, 3 Shoes & 5 Socks’ two established stores both are located on Spokane’s North Side, at 6821 N. Division and 2006 N. Ash. The company has 16 employees total, he says.

Established in 2013, the business is a full-line furniture and mattress retailer with all new merchandise, says McSteen. He declines to disclose the company’s 2016 revenue, but says it was up from 2015.

“We offer furniture and mattresses for every budget and quality level,” he says. The business also offers financing, delivery, and special orders.

McSteen says the business focuses on helping consumers with no or bad credit, and works with organizations such as HRC Ministries, Union Gospel Mission, and Family of Faith Community Church. 

Its employees include convicted felons who are changing their lives, he says. 16 Cents, 3 Shoes & 5 Socks has a blog on its website where people can learn more about the shop employees and learn about their individual stories and the business’s impact in the community, he says.

McSteen says he felt hesitant to start the business, but was encouraged by others. “I’ve been in the furniture industry most of my adult life,” he says, “and business has just been booming.”

Marshall Clark, of Clark Pacific Real Estate, handled the lease on the new location.
