Circle K to re-enter Spokane market

Project envisioned at U.S. 2, Flint Road

  • Print Article

A Circle K store and gas station will be constructed on more than 2 acres of undeveloped vacant land at 9132 W. U.S. 2, east of Airway Heights.

The new 5,200-square-foot convenience store and fuel canopy are valued at $1.15 million, according to a building permit application.

The project site is at the northwest corner of U.S. 2 and Flint Road, which lies north of the highway and Triumph Composite Systems, and west of Bell Motel, in Spokane. The site will be accessible from both Flint Road and U.S. 2, according to preliminary site plans.

Circle K Stores Inc. is owned by Alimentation Couche-Tard, a Canadian convenience store operator. A representative from Circle K couldn’t be reached for comment.

GreenbergFarrow, an Atlanta-based firm, is designing the project, according to permit documents.

A contractor hasn’t been selected yet.

Construction is expected to begin in March, with the store opening later in the year, environmental documents show.

Between 10 and 15 employees will work at the convenience store once complete.

Seven fuel pumps will be constructed underneath the 4,600-square-foot fuel canopy, which will be 20 feet, 6 inches in height.

The Airway Heights store will mark Circle K’s return to the Spokane County market, where it previously had operated a number of stations.

As previously reported in the Journal, an Arizona-based project consultant had submitted preliminary plans to the city of Spokane for three new Circle K stores in Spokane County in early 2018, but none of those have come to fruition.
