Colville native Kevin Cox, who now lives just above Kettle Falls, says he hopes to debut Purgatory Craft Beer & Whiskey Bar near the latter part of July at 524 W. Main, in the Bennett Block, between Carhartt Inc.’s clothing store and the former Rocky Roccoco restaurant space.

This will be Cox’s second Purgatory establishment.

Cox opened his first Purgatory tavern and restaurant in 2017 in Tracy, California, which is roughly an hour’s drive south from Sacramento.

“I was wandering around downtown Spokane in January, February—back in the dead zone of the pandemic—and thought, maybe Spokane needs a Purgatory,’’ Cox says.

Cox says he plans to use the same blueprint here as was used in California. A licensed contractor, Cox also owns and operates a concrete business.

“The businesses are running themselves right now, so this seemed like a good time to start another project,” he says.

Purgatory will feature varieties of whiskey blends, beer, wine, and a complete menu that will feature salads, wraps, burgers, and sandwiches. Purgatory will occupy 2,450 square feet of space formerly occupied by Chronic Tacos.

Cox expects to hire at least a half-dozen employees at the outset. Colbert-based Kilgore Construction Inc. will serve as the project manager. Hours of operation will be 11 a.m.-11:30 p.m. Sunday through Thursday, and 11 a.m.-12:30 a.m. Friday and Saturday.
