Education: bachelor's in economics from Eastern Washington University

What's the best piece of advice you've received? Don't go it alone. Find your people—those who will tell you the truth even if they know it's not what you want to hear, and those who will cheer you on when you feel at your worst.

Do you have a favorite motto or quote? Fortis Fortuna Adiuvat. Fortune favors the bold.

What advice would you have for others looking to follow a career path similar to yours? When you are in a job, ask if you can learn something new as often as you are able. Don't just do what you're asked, but do and learn to ask to learn more. Also, get involved at work and in the community. It pays you back tenfold to give to others.

If you had one wish for Spokane, what would it be? To be a united front against a negative and divisive world. We have a beautiful place to call home. We can set an example of what a strong progressive community looks like by engaging in civil discourse and compromise in order to continue building on what we already have.

In 2023, Charlotte Nemec was named CEO of the year by the National Association of Federally-Insured Credit Unions. The award recognizes leaders who leave an impact on their communities and contribute to the success and strength of the industry in remarkable lengths.

Since Nemec rose to CEO in 2018 from vice president of administration, the credit union has expanded with new branches, grown assets by 50%, and gained federal recognition as a Community Development Financial Institution for serving low-income populations.

Nemec has served on the boards of Women & Children's Free Restaurant, Whitworth Institute of Leadership, Spokane County United Way, GoWest Foundation, and Greater Spokane Incorporated.
