Multiple health care facility projects are underway or in various planning phases across the Inland Northwest.

Among those already in progress is Community Health Association of Spokane’s new $18 million health training facility, located at 731 N. Iron Bridge Way, on the 23-acre Iron Bridge Office Campus in East Spokane.

The 91,700-square-foot building will be comprised of three floors, the first of which will house the CHAS Health Learning Institute, while the top two floors will include office space for the organization’s administrative staff.

Construction of the 30,000-square-foot first floor is nearly complete, says Kelley Charvet, chief administrative officer at CHAS Health.

“We anticipate a certificate of occupancy for the first floor at the end of March, and will be utilizing the space by mid-April,” Charvet says.

The second and third floors are expected to be complete by February 2025, she says.

Training spaces in the facility will include a 450-square-foot pharmacy, a 1,900-square-foot medical simulation space with four exam rooms, a 2,000-square-foot dental simulation room with four exam chairs, and three classrooms, site plans on file with the city of Spokane show.

As previously reported by the Journal of Business, Spokane Valley-based Divcon Inc. constructed the exterior shell of the building, while Spokane-based Baker Construction & Development Inc. is handling the first-floor interior.

Spokane-based ALSC Architects PS is the project architect.

In northwest Spokane, Spokane-based nonprofit Cancer Can’t is raising funds for a $4.6 million lodging facility for adult cancer patients who need to travel to Spokane to receive oncology treatment.

Permitting for the project is expected later this year. Becky Van Keulen, co-founder and board president at Cancer Can’t, says she hopes the center will open and begin accepting patients in 2026.

Plans call for construction of 20 one-bedroom units in four two-story structures that will be connected under one roof system.

Spokane-based Sayler, Owens, Kerr Inc., which does business as SOK Design Studio, designed the project.

North of Spokane, at 12115 N. Mellon Parkway, just east of the Costco Wholesale Corp. store on North Newport Highway, MultiCare Health System has purchased 30 acres of vacant land.

Kevin Maloney, media relations manager for MultiCare’s Inland Northwest and Central Washington regions, says the site will be used for future health care development, but a timeline for that project hasn't been set yet.
