Spokane has been named one of the top 25 U.S. cities for retirees by Forbes.
The list, titled Best Places to Retire in 2025, highlights Spokane’s home prices and ratio of primary care physicians per capita as reasons it made the top 25.
It also describes the Lilac City as having good air quality, a good economy, being “very bikeable,” and “pretty walkable.” Forbes notes that there is no state income tax, too.
The cons listed for Spokane include its cold winters, its serious crime rate that’s above the national average, and the state’s estate tax and excise tax on certain investment gains.
Pasco was the only other Washington city to make the list.
Forbes compared over 950 locations across the U.S., evaluating housing costs, taxes, health care, air quality, crime, climate change, and natural hazard risk.
