Bulwark Barber moves in Coeur d'Alene

Coeur d’Alene’s Bulwark Barber has moved to new space in the Rockford Building, at 504 E. Lakeside, from its previous location at 204 N. Third.

Tanden Launder, the shop’s owner, says he purchased the historic building last year and has been remodeling it into several new creative studio spaces.

“I bought the building with the intention of remodeling it and created about 10 studio spaces that have been leased to different artistic and creative businesses,” he says.

Launder says Bulwark occupies a 900-square-foot retail space at the front of the build’s east side. The space has been restored to look like an old-time barbershop with six barber stations.

“My dad and I did all the remodeling work inside,” he says. “I wanted it to include some specific things like air nozzles and a central vacuum system.”

Launder started the shop in 2014 and has grown it to include six licensed barbers who provide customers with men’s haircuts and styles, straight razor shaves with hot towels, and scalp massages.

Launder says the shop moved into the new space in mid-April and is now open 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Monday through Saturday.

“I’m hoping this shop will be our flagship location, and eventually, we’ll open more shops regionally,” he says.
