Cajun-style café opens in Coeur d'Alene

A Cajun creole style restaurant with an Alice in Wonderland theme has opened in the midtown neighborhood in Coeur d’Alene.

Mother-daughter pair Jill Davis and Taylor Taylor co-own the business, which they’ve named Ten/6, after the Mad Hatter character, whose iconic top hat sells for 10 shillings and a sixpence.

“My daughter loves Alice in Wonderland, and the two of us have always loved to cook together, and dreamed of opening a restaurant,” says Davis. “For the last 10 years a dear friend of mine also has been teaching me Cajun-style cooking, so we decided to combine the two ideas.”

Davis says Ten/6 is located in a 960-square-foot leased space, formerly occupied by Kelly’s Irish Pub, at 726 N. Fourth. She says the interior space has been updated to include Wonderland-themed style and décor, including murals in each of its bathrooms.

“We did some minor remodeling ourselves, mostly cosmetic stuff,” she says. “Now it kind of feels how I’d imagine Alice would feel if she visited New Orleans.”

Davis says the restaurant serves Cajun creole dishes for breakfast and lunch, as well as beer and wine.

Davis says the restaurant has a total of seven employees including its two co-owners.
