South Hill Goodwill to be expanded, remodeled

Work on $1.25 million project expected to start in November, CEO says

A $1.25 million, 7,000-square-foot warehouse addition is planned for the Goodwill retail store at 2927 E. 27th, says Clark Brekke, Goodwill Industries of the Inland Northwest president and CEO.

The existing 10,000-square-foot retail building also will undergo external and internal remodeling, says Brekke.

“We’re hoping construction will begin sometime in November, but of course, that’s pending the weather,” he says.

Wolfe Architecture Group PS, of Spokane, is the architect on the project.

A contractor hasn’t been selected yet for the project, Brekke says, but he hopes construction and remodeling will wrap up by June 2019. The warehouse addition and building remodel will take place at the same time. Brekke says the store will remain open during construction and remodeling.

“We hope to minimize the disruption for our customers that are shopping in our store,” he says. “We can do that through safety barriers and other tools to concurrently remodel and maintain the shopping experience.”

Brekke says the store is, by volume, the busiest of the six outlets in Goodwill’s Inland Northwest territory.

“The goal of this is to improve the flow for our customers,” he says.

Brekke adds that the aesthetic of the warehouse and exterior remodel of the store will be intended to reflect a “South Hill feel” and fit in with other buildings in the neighborhood.

The warehouse will include five bays for Goodwill trucks, as well as a porte cochere for drive-thru donations.

Brekke says Goodwill Industries of the Inland Northwest will finance the entire project.
