Two Spokane-area pilots plan to build hangar at Felts Field

Owner says construction could begin next month

Buck N Brown Hangars LLC plans to begin construction of an aircraft storage hangar at Felts Field next month.

Veradale-based Buck N Brown is a company formed last summer by Norris Brown, a retired Kaiser Aluminum employee, and Scott Buck, owner of Spokane Powersports Inc.

Brown says he and Buck are pilots who build airplanes in their spare time.

“Scott and I own a Cessna P210 together, and we were both looking for more space to work on building airplanes,” he says. “We decided to form a partnership, then we bid on the lease and won the space.”

Brown says the new hangar, which will be built at 6150 E. Rutter, is planned to be just over 6,300 square feet, and will include two large bays at each end, with two smaller bays in the middle.

“We’re planning to use most of the larger space ourselves, but we may rent out the smaller areas,” he says.

Brown says Spokane-based Ironwood Structures LLC is the contractor for the project, which he estimates could cost up to $250,000.

“We’re hoping to see construction start in early December,” he says. “After that, I expect it will take a couple of months to build.”

Brown says the site was previously occupied by a hangar, which was torn down last year as part of Felts Field’s $7.7 million taxi lane rehabilitation project.

Located in northeast Spokane, Felts Field consists of 400 acres of land. Felts Field, Spokane International Airport, and the Airport Business Park are owned jointly by Spokane County and the city of Spokane, and are operated by the Spokane Airport Board, consisting of seven appointees from the two governmental jurisdictions.
