Capstone Construction starts projects worth about $1.9 million

Three North Side buildings are in need of roof repairs

July 20, 2017

Spokane-based remodeling and disaster restoration company Capstone Construction Co. has begun work on a trio of projects in North Spokane with a combined value of $1.9 million.

Capstone President and owner Pat Cummings says the projects, located at 1211 E. Francis, 6565 N. Perry, and 6463 N. Perry, are all focused on replacement and repair following snow and ice damage.

“This was damage that occurred this past winter and early spring,” he says. “These particular buildings all had flat roofs that were heavily loaded with snow and ice, to the point where the trusses failed.”

He says plans for all three projects include replacement of roof trusses and the reframing of collapsed front walls.

According to Cummings, the 13,600-square-foot building on Francis Avenue that’s the site of one of the projects is occupied by Motion Auto Supply, an auto parts store that plans to continue to operate as normal during construction.

He says the two buildings on Perry Street are commercial structures that are leased to various businesses for use as either storefronts or storage spaces. The structures have about 7,100 square feet of space and 10,300 square feet of space, respectively.

“It’s taken a while for everything to get through the insurance process, plus additional hoops,” he says. “People also had to retrieve belongings from their storage units, so we only just began the rebuilding process a few weeks ago.”

He says all three restoration projects likely will be finished by next February.

Cummings says all three buildings are owned by Dave Johnson, who couldn’t be reached for comment.
