Real estate roundup: Fly fishing shop to cast its line in Garland District

Swede’s Fly Shop, a full-service fly fishing store, has leased 1,400 square feet of space at 825 W. Garland and plans to move to there in June, says shop owner Allen “Swede” Peterson.

Peterson says he’s looking forward to moving into the heart of the Garland District.

“I think it has more of a sense of community,” says Peterson, who was born in Spokane.

“Even as a small child I remember that huge white milk bottle,” he says of the unique shape of the Marilou’s Homemade Ice Cream & More restaurant building across the street from where he plans to move his fly-fishing shop.

Peterson has operated the shop for 11 years at its current location at 1611 N. Ash.

“Customers come from all of over Spokane and as far as Seattle, but I don’t think any of them live in the neighborhood,” he says, referring to the current location.

The shop sells name-brand fly fishing supplies and accessories and offers guiding services, casting lessons, and fly-tying classes.

Peterson works at the one-man shop Mondays through Saturdays. He fishes on Sundays and occasionally closes the shop to fish on particularly promising weekdays.

Spokane commercial real estate brokers Mike Livingston, of Kiemle & Hagood Co., and Jim Orcutt, of NAI Black, handled the Garland lease.

Retail & Service

Josefine’s Salon Concepts LLC, a Spokane hair salon and art boutique, has leased 1,100 square feet of space in the Lorraine Building, at 308 W. First, and plans to move to the street-front location from smaller quarters in the Luminaria Building, at 154 S. Madison. Sharon Reynolds and Doug Byrd, both of Byrd Real Estate Group LLC, and David Dowers, of Dowers Commercial Real Estate Group Inc., handled the transaction.

Mountain Dog Sign Co. has leased 6,600 square feet of space at 1620 N. Mamer Road and plans to move there from smaller quarters at 24001 E. Mission. James S. Black III, of NAI Black, and Charlie Wolff, of SDS Realty Inc., handled the transaction.

Evans Auto Care Inc., an auto-detailing shop, has leased 6,000 square feet of space in the Airways Business Center, at 1100 S. Garfield Road, and plans to move there from smaller quarters at 3621 E. Front. Doug Byrd, of Byrd Real Estate Group LLC, handled the transaction.

Office & Storage

Patrick A. Gray Insurance Agency, an American Family Insurance agency, has leased 1,700 square feet of space in a multitenant office building at 920 N. Argonne Road, and plans to move there in June from smaller quarters at 1521 N. Argonne. Ryan Towner and Chris Bell, both of NAI Black, handled the transaction.

Burke’s Klein’s DKI, a Post Falls water and fire damage repair contractor, has leased two adjacent single-story buildings with a total of 9,000 square feet of office and warehouse space at 3626 W. Seltice Way and 745 N. Idahline Road, in Post Falls. Craig Hunter and Rob Kannapien, both of Coldwell Banker Commercial Schneidmiller Realty, and Pat Eberlin, of Kiemle & Hagood Co., handled the transaction. The main office for Burke’s Klein’s DKI is at 3880 W. Riverbend.
