SYSA to consolidate its offices, bingo operations

Organization to move into building north of arena

April 7, 2016
Samantha Peone

The Spokane Youth Sports Association is consolidating its administrative offices and bingo hall into one location at 1221 N. Howard, just north of the Spokane Arena, say executive director Philip Helean and bingo director Jeff Barlow.

The new location has been named the SYSA Event Center, Helean says.

The sports administration offices have been operating out of The Warehouse Athletic Facility, at 800 N. Hamilton, and SYSA Bingo, which already has begun operating at the new location,  had been at 2230 E. Sprague, he says.

Helean says the organization chose to move when its lease on Sprague expired.

“We were looking for a better location that we could get into a position where we had the option to purchase the building,” he says.

Also, he says the nonprofit decided moved because it wanted to consolidate its operations into one location.

SYSA will occupy all 10,100 square feet of the building on Howard, says Helean. The building previously housed the Season Ticket, a sports-oriented restaurant and lounge.

Helean says the organization’s goal is to be in the building by June 1. Along with its own operations being housed there, the organization will offer space for rent there for meeting and events.

SYSA offers sports programs for youths from 4 to 18 years old. Sports include soccer, football, basketball, baseball, softball, and rugby. The nonprofit served more than 12,000 children in 2015 and has enrolled in its programs more than 300,000 since its formation in 1966, says Helean.

SYSA Bingo provides a revenue source for the nonprofit, helping cover field maintenance and other costs.
