Inland Northwest Blood Center plans collection center on Spokane's North Side

Donation site will be open three days a week initially

Inland Northwest Blood Center has leased 1,200 square feet of space at 10403 N. Newport Highway, where it plans to open a new blood collection center in February, says Jennifer Hawkins, a spokeswoman for the Spokane-based nonprofit.

The collection center will enable North Side residents to donate blood on weekends, when they’re more likely to have free time, she says.

“We want to bring convenience to the North Side,” Hawkins says.

The collection center will be open 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays.

The center will have at least three beds, and it will be staffed by four or five employees, she says.

“We are going ahead and try this for a while,” Hawkins says. “If it works, we’ll want to make it a permanent piece for us.”

Spokane commercial real estate brokers Greg Byrd, of Byrd Real Estate Group LLC, and John Gavin and Colin Conway, both of Kiemle & Hagood Co., negotiated the lease.

INBC has permanent collection sites at its headquarters at 210 W. Cataldo, which is open seven days a week, and at 405 W. Neider, in Coeur d’Alene, which is open six days a week. It also collects blood on Thursdays at Valley Hospital, at 12606 E. Mission.

Its other collection centers are in Pullman, Moses Lake, and Lewiston.
