Carhartt to open store downtown

Workwear apparel company to anchor Bennett Block

January 12, 2016
Journal of Business Staff

Hieber Properties, the Spokane-based development company that’s renovating the historic Bennett Block in downtown Spokane, says it has signed Carhartt Inc., the Dearborn, Mich.-based maker of durable workwear apparel, as the anchor tenant for that property.

Carhartt plans to open the store next fall in a 3,800-square-foot space on the street level of the building, located at the northeast corner of Main Avenue and Howard Street.

A full-scale renovation of the building, which was originally constructed in 1890, started in early 2014. In addition to improvements for the Carhartt store, the building’s second-floor upgrades are expected to be completed this year.

Current tenants in the building include Mizuna Restaurant, Indaba Coffee, and Rocky Rococo Pizza, among others.

The Carhartt store will be the company’s first stand-alone retail location in Spokane. The next closest is in Seattle.

Mark McLees and Stephen Pohl, both of NAI Black, handled the lease.
