Pacific Cataract & Laser Institute Inc., a Chehalis, Wash.-based eye care center, has bought 2 acres of land at 16818 E. Desmet Court, where it plans to construct a medical office building for its Spokane-area operations, according to preliminary planning information on file with the city of Spokane Valley.

A Pacific Cataract spokesman couldn’t be reached for comment.

The vacant parcel is east of and adjacent to Providence Medical Park, which opened last year.

Pfaff Architects, of Chehalis, has submitted a commercial predevelopment application to the city of Spokane Valley for a construction project described as a new 16,500-square-foot medical office building and ambulatory surgery center with parking and landscaping.

The Spokane County Assessor’s Office lists the real estate purchase price at $1.2 million.

Pacific Cataract’s Spokane office currently is located in the Riverfront Office Park, at 534 E. Spokane Falls Blvd.

Pacific Cataract is a referral center that specializes in cataract surgery and laser vision correction. It has 17 locations in six Western states.

Carl Guenzel, an agent with Spokane-based commercial real estate brokerage Kiemle & Hagood Co., handled the land purchase.
