Goodwill leases South Hill space for new thrift shop

Store in Lincoln Heights set to open in September

July 17, 2014

Spokane-based Goodwill Industries of the Inland Northwest has leased 9,800 square feet of retail space on the South Hill, where it plans to open a new thrift store.

The site, at 2929 E 27th, just north of the Lincoln Heights Shopping Center, had been the longtime location of a 50 Percent Off Card Shop outlet, which closed last month.

Goodwill plans to open the South Hill retail outlet in September. The site also will have a donation station where people will be encouraged to drop off items for resale. The nonprofit organization, which is based east of downtown at 103 E. Third, operates five retail stores and an outlet store in the Spokane area and a total of six other stores throughout the Inland Northwest. It also operates an online auction and retail store.

The South Hill store will have 16 employees, the nonprofit says in a press release about the planned outlet.

Revenues from the thrift stores fund Goodwill’s job training, employment-placement services, and other community-based programs benefitting people facing employment challenges.

Spokane commercial real estate brokers Guy Byrd, of Cornerstone Property Advisors LLC, and Marshall Clark, of Clark Pacific Real Estate Co., negotiated the lease.

Third, where it plans to open this month. Earl Engle, of NAI Black, and Scott Simcik, of Financial Growth Partners, handled the transaction.

Washington Agriculture & Forestry Education Foundation, a Spokane-based leadership development organization, has leased 2,100 square feet of office space at 8817 E. Mission, and plans to move there next month from leased quarters at 9211 E. Mission. Casey Brazil and Erik Nelson, both of Kiemle & Hagood Co., and Chris Siemens, of Windermere Real Estate/City Group LLC, handled the transaction.
