Spokane Valley hotel development company kVc Development Inc. and Parkwood Business Properties, of Coeur d'Alene, plan to develop jointly a $15 million SpringHill Suites by Marriott hotel in northwest Coeur d'Alene.

The 118-room, four-story hotel will be built on 3.5 acres of land just east of the 101-room Holiday Inn Express, at 2300 W. Seltice Way, which kVc Development's sister company, Sterling Hospitality Management LLC, opened in 2006.

The project currently is in the permitting stage with the city of Coeur d'Alene, says Julie Brown, a kVc spokeswoman. It's expected to be completed in a little more than a year, she says.

KVc Development and Sterling Hospitality Management recently developed and opened a SpringHill Suites hotel in Wenatchee, Wash., with a prototype design that the Coeur d'Alene facility will follow, Brown says. Lindquist Architects PS, of Spokane Valley, designed both hotels. A contractor hasn't been selected yet for the Coeur d'Alene project.

Hotel amenities will include suites partitioned into two rooms, an indoor pool with a waterfall feature and whirlpool spa, two patios with an outdoor splash pad and a barbecue-fireplace area, a three-hole putting green, a breakfast buffet, a fitness center, and parking with four electric-car outlets, among others.

The project site is just north of the Riverstone mixed-use development, and some rooms in the hotel will have views of the Spokane River and Lake Coeur d'Alene, Brown says.

The hotel will employ about 30 people, she says.

Brothers Kent, Cal, and Clay Clausen, the primary principals of Sterling Hospitality Management and kVc Development, originally had planned to develop and operate a hotel at the Coeur d'Alene site two years ago, but those plans were delayed due to the economic downturn, Brown says.

Sterling Hospitality operates 12 hotel properties in all, including three in the Spokane area. In addition to SpringHill Suites by Marriott, its franchise affiliations include Hampton Inn, Hilton Garden Inn, and Quality Inn.

Parkwood Business Properties, which will be part owner of the planned hotel, develops and manages commercial real estate. Its portfolio includes more than 1 million square feet of commercial space in Kootenai County.
