Regional real estate concern opens in-house school here

Century 21 broker offers courses free of charge as a perk for its agents

June 30, 2011
Mike McLean

Century 21 Beutler & Associates, a prominent Coeur d'Alene-based real estate brokerage with two Spokane-area offices, says it has hired Spokane real estate broker Linda Miller as the company's education manager and has started offering courses for its agents here.

Miller, a Washington-state certified real estate instructor, will serve as the administrator and instructor for the company's real estate school, Century 21 Beutler & Associates Education, which will conduct classes at the offices in downtown Spokane and in Liberty Lake.

The Washington state Department of Licensing recently certified the real estate school, which offers Beutler & Associates' agents continuing-education courses in real estate matters free of charge, Miller says.

"I'm a perk," she says, adding that most brokerages here don't have an in-house school, and agents typically must pay for such continuing-education courses. Real estate agents in both Idaho and Washington are required to take continuing-education courses.

Miller began teaching real estate courses through the Spokane Association of Realtors in 1995. Her areas of interest in instruction include professional standards, fair housing, and building successful real estate businesses.

The Idaho Real Estate Commission certified the school in 2006. Carrie Oja, former executive director of the Coeur d'Alene Association of Realtors who now works as office manager for Beutler & Associates' Coeur d'Alene office, instructs a 12-hour course called Agent Essentials for the company's Idaho agents.

The school's first approved courses in Washington cover ethics and negotiations for real estate professionals.

Other courses are waiting approval in Washington or Idaho, including one on serving consumer needs, and another that covers Idaho real estate forms.

Miller began her real estate career in 1989 and received a broker's license in 1992. She served in 2010 as president of the Spokane Association of Realtors .

Miller says she will continue with her career in real estate, serving the Spokane region through Beutler & Associates in addition to her position as educational manager.
