Spokane contractor to handle $540,000 in city paving projects

March 25, 2010
Jeanne Gustafson

The city of Spokane has awarded contracts for two road projects, worth a combined $540,000, to MJM Grand Inc., of Spokane. The projects, located in northeast Spokane and Peaceful Valley, involve paving unpaved streets and adding sidewalks, says city spokeswoman Ann Deasy.

MJM Grand was awarded a $358,000 contract for a project to pave Decatur Avenue between Freya and Julia streets, and Julia between Dalke and Francis avenues, in northeast Spokane. MJM also will install sidewalks and curb ramps along those street sections, Deasy says. That project is expected to begin at the end of April and should be completed in June, she says.

Separately, MJM landed a $181,000 contract to pave a portion of Bennett Avenue extending east from Clarke Avenue, and North Street between Bennett and Clarke, in the Peaceful Valley area west of downtown. The contractor also will install sidewalks and curb ramps there, Deasy says. Work is expected to begin in mid-March and would be completed around the beginning of May.

Both projects are being done through local improvement districts, with funds being provided partly by property owners in the project areas and partly with money from the 10-year Spokane street bond, Deasy says.
