A dog training and boarding business plans to construct and move into two new buildings worth a combined $5 million along East Sprague, in the Veradale area of Spokane Valley. 

Mary Davies owns Greenacres-based Dog Sciences LLC, which does business as Unleashed Academy. Davies bought the building at 16614 E. Sprague, the former location of truck bed topper business Spokane Toppers, in November.

Davies says Unleashed Academy has outgrown its current 500-square-foot home office space. Unleashed Academy, formerly called Dogology, raises and trains dogs for service use and as family pets, as well as providing “naughty dog” training and rehabilitation classes.

“With our new center, we’ll be doing boarding and an indoor dog play center, like a private dog park,” Davies says.

Demolition of the existing structure on East Sprague could begin as early as this week, Davies says. 

Construction will begin immediately thereafter on a 3,800-square-foot building. Davies says that building will host offices, service dog training areas, and a pick-up and drop-off area. 

“It’ll also be our classroom for training classes and agility,” Davies says.

Davies says construction of the first building is expected to be completed in August.

Work will then start on a second building, she says.

“It will be a 10,000-square-foot indoor play center for dogs, with day care and boarding options,” Davies says. 

The second building is expected to be completed in late 2021 or early 2022, she says. A contractor has not yet been selected for the second structure.

Spokane Valley-based South Henry Studios provided architecture services for both buildings.

Davies says construction of both buildings is expected to cost about $5 million in total.

Currently, about 27 people work at Unleashed Academy. After the move, Davies says she expects to hire about 10 additional employees to help with the more than 60 clients Unleashed Academy serves.
