Spokane Overstock rebrands, expands

Furniture and mattress retailer Spokane Overstock is rebranding its stores, starting with its newest Spokane outlet, which opened last month at 1001 N. Division.

“As a company, we’ve slowly progressed to selling less overstock and more direct-from-the-factory furniture and mattresses,” says company owner and president, Nathan Chetrit. “We’re offering the same great deals, just less overstock product, and we wanted the name to reflect that.”

Chetrit says all of the company’s stores will be under the company’s new name, Wallaroo’s Furniture & Mattresses.

“We chose the name Wallaroo’s because it’s a fun name and it’s fun to say,” he says. “It also allows us to keep our kangaroo logo, which has gotten pretty recognizable.”

Chetrit says the Division store occupies a 22,500-square-foot building that was formerly a Simmons Comfort World outlet.

“The building was in a state of disrepair and had been empty for a while,” he says. “We hired several local subcontractors to help with the remodel.”

He says the Division store has four employees and has been painted a bright blue to help attract customers.

“We’re happy to be in such a visible building, that’s a bit closer to our competition,” says Chetrit. “The response has been really good so far.”

In addition to the new Spokane store, Wallaroo’s also has remodeled a retail building in Boise, Idaho.

Chetrit says the Boise store opened earlier this month.

The Boise store will be the company’s sixth location, and the second time they’ve opened a store outside of the Inland Northwest, as they also operate a store in Missoula.

“I think we’ve found our niche, and we’d like to keep growing,” he says. “I’m already considering cities like Salt Lake and Las Vegas for potential new store locations.”
