Spokane-based Moss Adams principal selected to lead national practice

Former Contineo owner heads financial services consulting division now

July 19, 2018

Seattle-based national accounting firm Moss Adams LLP, which has an office here, has named Spokane partner Craig Sanders as the national leader of the firm’s financial services consulting practice, which covers all 50 states.

The financial services consulting practice focuses on the regulatory, compliance, auditing, and internal auditing for financial services companies, such as banks, credit unions, and other financial industry companies, says Sanders.

Prior to joining Moss Adams, Sanders owned Spokane-based Contineo Technologies Inc. He established that company in 1999 and operated it until combining its financial services consulting operations with Moss Adams in 2016.

“As I continued to grow Contineo, we were competing more and more with Moss Adams,” he says. “With all the regulatory pressure and consolidation in the market, I just felt partnering with a firm like Moss Adams—which had 30 offices, 3,000 employees—to address the need for that market put us in a better strategic position for those clients.”

Moss Adams also has appointed other firm employees to high-level positions, although they aren’t based in Spokane, says Sanders.

Portland, Ore.-based Gabe Nachand has been chosen as the national practice leader for the financial institutions practice. Mark Thoma has been named partner in charge of the Tacoma, Wash. office, and Brad Smith has been selected as partner in charge of the Eugene, Ore. office, says Sanders.

Moss Adams’ Spokane office is located at 601 W. Riverside in downtown Spokane. According to the Journal’s Largest Accounting Firms list, the firm has 59 certified public accountants, 26 other accountants, and 105 total employees in the Spokane-Coeur d’Alene area.

In addition to its presence in Washington, the firm has offices in Arizona, California, Kansas, New Mexico, Oregon, and Texas. It offers financial statements, management consulting, tax planning, international tax planning, small-client services, government accounting, and other services.
