Spokane Public Schools has about $55.7 million in construction projects in the works this year.

Construction was scheduled to begin in late March on the $20.7 million Linwood Elementary School replacement project at 906 W. Weile, says Greg Forsyth, director of capital projects and planning for the district.

T.W. Clark Construction LLC, of Spokane Valley, is building a new, two-story, 75,000-square-foot elementary school on the existing playground. Once that’s built and classes have move into the new facility, the current school will be demolished and replaced with a new playground.  New parking will also be added.

The new facility is expected to open fall 2019. School will be in session during the construction process, says Forsyth.

Integrus Architecture PS, of Spokane, is the architect on that project.

On the South Hill, construction is underway on the $26 million Franklin Elementary School historic remodel and 17,000-square-foot addition.

Forsyth says that project, located at 2627 E. 17th, entails historic renovations to the building, first constructed in 1909, and adding space to it. The school’s entrance also will be moved to comply better with accessibility standards. Multiple classrooms and a multipurpose gym with a performance stage will be added.

Construction started last June and is expected to wrap up next October, Forsyth says.

Garco Construction Inc. and ALSC Architects PS, both of Spokane, are the contractor and architect, respectively, on the project.

Classroom addition projects are expected to start later this year at Lewis & Clark High School, at 521 W. Fourth, and at Wilson Elementary School, at 911 W. 25th, he says.

Those projects are estimated to cost $4.5 million each.

Forsyth says NAC Architecture, of Spokane, is designing the Lewis and Clark project, but an architect hasn’t been selected yet for the Wilson project. No contractor has been selected yet for either of those projects.
