Heavenly Special Teas has moved to the former Big Dog Tavern, at 1817 N. Division, from its former Hillyard neighborhood location.

Owner Sherri Davey says Heavenly Special Teas includes a cafe, a tea shop, and a formal tearoom. The cafe offers breakfast all day, desserts, a lunch menu, and all 125 flavors sold in the tea shop. The tea shop sells loose leaf tea blends, teapots, teacups, and scone mixes. The formal tearoom is reserved in advance for formal tea services of one to five courses. 

Heavenly Special Teas currently has seven employees, Davey says. 

“I knew that just a tea shop wouldn’t make it in Spokane, and I knew just a tearoom wouldn’t make it in Spokane,” Davey says. “I knew I had to be multidimensional.”

Davey says she moved the business into the former Big Dog in May and spent about two months renovating the 4,000-square-foot building.

“We would not have been able to move if my customers had not stepped up to help me,” Davey says. “They donated their time and expertise, and about $15,000 to $20,000 in labor costs, to help me remodel and open this place.”

Heavenly Special Teas was compelled to move when its former building in Hillyard was sold, Davey says.

Davey started the business from her home in Deer Park in 2006 and opened in Hillyard in late 2016. Her daughter, Rachel Davey, has been involved in the business since she was 18, and has taken over general manager duties.
