Increased revenue, growth opportunities follow acquisition

Ben Widmyer, president of Widmyer Corporation, says the acquisition has made it possible to expand the number of properties the company manages in the Spokane area.

Since acquiring Spokane-based Kiemle Hagood’s multifamily division in April 2025, Coeur d’Alene-based Widmyer Corp. has expanded its portfolio of managed affordable and subsidized housing in the Spokane region.

Widmyer Corp., a real estate acquisition, development, and property management company specializing in multifamily, affordable, and subsidized housing, manages properties in Idaho, Washington, Oregon, Montana, North Dakota, Iowa, and Ohio.

As part of the acquisition, Widmyer Corp. purchased the management rights of about 45 multifamily properties and hired Kiemle Hagood’s multifamily management staff, who now manage the properties under the Widmyer Corp. umbrella, says Ben Widmyer, president and owner of Widmyer Corp.

“What really excited me about the opportunity is the talent ... ” he says. “They'd had years of experience managing affordable housing specifically. It filled a need for us with some back-end, company admin stuff that we needed with our existing portfolio, but then also brought a skilled team that we could utilize for not only what they had been doing but also helping us out in some other areas.”

The Spokane-based multifamily division housing staff manages mostly affordable and subsidized housing in the Spokane region, and has added the management of several market-rate properties, including two new properties in Seattle, he says.

Widmyer Corp. has focused on growing its portfolio through third-party management, acquisitions, and development, Widmyer says. Since acquiring Kiemle Hagood’s multifamily division, Widmyer says revenue has increased but declines to disclose by how much. He also declines to disclose other terms of the transaction.

“The affordable piece is a big part of what we do,” he says. “So that's kind of where we're looking to grow, but if opportunities present themselves, we'd be able to take on other stuff as well.”

Widmyer expects the company to expand its managing footprint in Spokane in the future thanks to the additional staff. Widmyer Corp. brought on around 40 site managers and maintenance workers, in addition to several administration, accounting, front desk, and leadership and portfolio management staff members.

“With it being subsidized housing and there being a high regulatory environment and dealing with (the Department of Housing and Urban Development), we've been working through those transitions and those approvals, and fully got all those a couple weeks ago,” Widmyer says. “We’re at the point where we’re in a pretty comfortable spot to start looking at taking on more properties over in the Spokane area.”
