A new Nordstrom Rack store is expected to open Oct. 15 in North Spokane. The discount fashion retailer will operate in a revamped 31,000-square-foot space previously occupied by Big Lots at the Northpointe Plaza, at 9612 N. Newport Highway.

Tenant improvements are valued at $2.1 million, according to building permit information on file with the city of Spokane. Updates involve the construction of a retail sales floor, employee offices, and stock storage areas within the existing shell. New finishes, partitions, casework, and associated mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems also are included in the work, permit information shows.

Signal Hill, of Signal Hill, California, is the contractor. Seattle-based MG2 Corp. is the architect, and Hargis Engineers Inc., also of Seattle, is the project engineer.

Previously, a separate permit valued at $950,000 was issued in March for core-and-shell and site improvements, including interior demolition; removal of existing plumbing and heating, ventilation, and air conditioning equipment; installation of a rooftop unit; a storefront replacement; an Americans with Disabilities Act-accessible egress ramp; and crosswalk striping. Deacon Construction LLC, of Portland, was the contractor for that work. Site plans show St. Louis-based Casco provided design and engineering services.

Nordstrom Rack is the off-price retail division of Seattle-based Nordstrom Inc., which announced plans for the Northpointe store in November 2025.

Customers will be able to pick up online orders placed through Nordstrom and Nordstrom Rack and make returns at the new location. Nordstrom Rack offers apparel, accessories, beauty products, home decor, and shoes at discounted prices, according to the company's website. Nordstrom identifies its Nordstrom Rack stores as its largest source of new customers.

The new location will expand Nordstrom’s presence in the state, which includes six Nordstrom stores and 12 Nordstrom Rack stores, that employ about 3,100 people statewide as of March, according to a company press release.

Northpointe Plaza is owned and managed by Indianapolis-based Kite Realty Group and is anchored by tenants including Target, Dick’s Sporting Goods, TJ Maxx, Safeway, and Total Wine & More.
