Wander Spokane walking tours starts up

Restaurants & Retail

October 11, 2018
Staff Report

Spokane native Alana Livingston has opened a new business called Wander Spokane, which she says currently offers three types of downtown walking tours: food, wine, and beer.

“I’m an avid hiker and outdoor lover,” says Livingston. “I moved back to Spokane seven years ago and really developed a newfound respect for this city and all it has to offer, so I thought this business would be the perfect way to share that.”

Livingston is Wander Spokane’s owner and the company’s only employee. She says she doesn’t yet have an office space and relies mostly on online and phone bookings.

Each tour lasts up to three hours, including four or five stops at restaurants, wineries, or breweries.

“We meet up at different downtown locations, and no tour ever follows the same route or visits the same destination,” she says.

While no two tours are exactly the same, Livingston says food tours usually end with a dessert stop, and wine or beer tours feature a tour of either Barrister Winery or Steel Barrel brewery. Each includes educational details about those facilities and the processes they use in production.

She says all tours also include facts about Spokane history, art, architecture, and even some ghost stories.

“We talk about literally anything and everything we walk past along the way, whether that’s architecture, history, or art,” says Livingston. “The goal of these tours is to showcase how special Spokane is, and support local businesses and people who are looking to stay active in our community.”

Looking ahead, she says Wander will add some new tours to its roster next spring, including children’s educational hikes and urban wilderness hikes.
