The Barbers adds new Valley shop

-

Dan Dickau, former Gonzaga University point guard and NBA player, and his wife, Heather, have opened a new The Barbers barber shop in Spokane Valley.

The 1,800-square-foot shop, located at 506 N. Sullivan, is the fourth owned by Dickau in the Spokane area.

Dickau says the new Spokane Valley shop has seven employees, and features eight barber stations, TVs for sports broadcasts, framed jerseys as wall décor, and even a pool table.

The shops are part of the larger The Barbers chain of barber shops started by Dan and Alison Lovell in Vancouver, Wash., in 1999. The chain includes more than 30 locations in the Northwest.

“I got to know Dan and Alison about 10 years ago, and we stayed in touch,” says Dickau. “I’d been considering what to do when I got done playing basketball, and it turned out to be an interesting opportunity.”

The Dickaus opened their first The Barbers shop at 9331 N. Newport Highway in 2013, which soon was followed by two other shops, one at 1304 S. Grand Blvd., on the South Hill, and another at 28 E. Sharp, on Spokane’s North Side.

“I knew I wanted to add a Valley location at some point, and this just happened to be the right time for it,” he says.

The Barbers shops offer basic haircuts and “the works,” which include a shampoo, hot shave, and haircut. The shop also offers some additional services, including neck massages, highlighting, and color services.

Dickau says the company donates T-shirts to different high school or youth athletic programs, as a way of sponsoring them and giving back to the community.

“We’re really excited to be expanding into the Valley,” he says. “We’re happy to provide a valued service, and, if all goes well, we’d love to open more locations in this area in the future.”
