Mike McLean

A year into The M redevelopment, Spokane developer Centennial Properties Inc. and its affiliates have obtained or applied for building permits valued at more than $33 million for the renovation project at 608 W. Main, the former site of Macy’s department store. New retail shops and the first of the residential units are scheduled to open next spring. Walker Construction Inc. is the contractor, and NAC Architecture designed it. Bottom right, The M will have retail shops on the first and second floors, and 114 residential units on the third through 10th floors. Bottom left, the building has new systems, including a heating and cooling system, which transfers heat to and from a large, circulating water system kept at a constant 72 degrees. Middle left, the skeleton is in place for a new skywalk over Howard Street. Top left, some larger residential units will have southeast views. Top right, the third floor is ready for framing.
