Spokane Sunscreen consolidates operations

Longtime window-tinting business started in 1947

June 18, 2015

Spokane Sunscreen LLC, a longtime window-tinting business here, has consolidated its Spokane Valley and Spokane locations into a 7,500-square-foot store at 7227 E. Sprague that has more space than its former two locations combined, says co-owner Rick Johnson.

The company moved because the new shop is not only larger but also more centrally located, Johnson says. It settled into the new leased space about four months ago and shares the 10,000-square-foot building there with a Glass Doctor outlet, he says.

The two also shared buildings at both of Spokane Sunscreen’s former locations—27 E. Main downtown and 11241 E. Sprague in Spokane Valley, where it occupied about 3,000 and 1,200 square feet of space, respectively, Johnson says.

Founded by brothers Bill and Orville Loff in 1947, Spokane Sunscreen employs nine people, all of whom are full time, and sells and installs several different protection films, more commonly known as window tinting, says Johnson.

It provides the tinting for auto, commercial, residential, security, and specialty applications. Examples of tints the company provides include a safety and security line, which is designed to protect against burglaries; graffiti protection films for vandalism removal; heat protection films, which are generally thicker films that collect warmth; clear UV blocking films; and decorative films that can be installed in areas such as conferences rooms and bathrooms.

“We do a lot of government work on a lot of different government facilities,” says Johnson, who adds that when those facilities are remodeled, safety and security films must be installed.
